Hello & Welcome Back!

It's super cold out today, so let's warm up with this game...

Play just one round of level 1 Place Values

Ok, now that you're all toasty warm, take a look at this video about adding double digit numbers, watch carefully because you'll be doing some next. You can watch it as many times as you want. Isn't the internet great?

Feel ready to try some on your own? Print this out and give it a whirl!

It's Friday and you've earned a break! Check back on Monday for more mathy fun (yes, that is a thing). If you really can't wait until then, practice some multiplication facts with the fun games on the right ------->

App Review

Hello!

Summer is just around the corner and so are those long car rides! How about putting those ipads to use learning some math!

This post is the first in what I hope will be a series of app reviews to help you decide which Math apps are worth your child's time. All the apps I will review are free, but some may include the option to upgrade for a cost.

Be sure to check the settings on you child's ipad and set your preferences for in-app purchases.

The fist App up is...

Splash Math!

This App requires you to create an account. This is done simply with a parent email address. If you don't want emails from them, you could always create a gmail account and use it uniquely to register things like free Apps.

Practice in subjects like addition, subtraction, place value, telling time, geometry, data and graphs for Grades 1-5. The graphics in this game are cute, but somewhat geared towards younger children. The games have a 'daily limit' of how much you can play and then it requires a purchased upgrade.

The younger grades have the directions read to them, which is helpful. In general, this game offers very simple practice with age appropriate skills. For Kilmer Students, after practicing for a bit at grade level,  you may want to have them go a grade up for a little more challenge.

Splash Math will generate parents reports giving you time on task, scores, and performance by topic.

For this App my overall rating is a 3 out of 5 stars.

It's Ok, but the simplicity of the skills and the limited time play keep it from being 4 stars.
